Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
