Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
