Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are great at fighting depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
