How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. A number of foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are great at battling depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating some eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
If you wish to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
