Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a great protein source.
If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body.
