Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you wish to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can really bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become better. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try these hints instead!
