Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods actually do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and be happy!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
If you wish to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
