Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are terrific at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and be happy!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
