Foods That Can Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try eating some eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
If you would like to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
