Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
