Foods That Make You Happy
Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.
If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is actually great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
