The ingredients needed to make Mitha Dali:
  1. Take 2 cups arhar Dal / pigeon dal
  2. Prepare 2 tbsp jaggery
  3. Prepare As per taste Salt
  4. Prepare 1 tsp turmeric powder
  5. Get 1/4 cup grated coconut
  6. Take 5 cups Water
  7. Make ready 1 tsp Ghee
  8. Make ready 1/2 tbsp Jeera/cumin seeds
  9. Take 2-3 dry red chillies
  10. Take Pinch Hing
  11. Prepare 1/2 tbsp sliced ginger
Steps to make Mitha Dali:
  1. First take the Dal & then soak it for 30 mins.
  2. Now take a kadhai / or any big pot. Add 4 cups of water. Then add soaked Dal into it. Let bring the water a boil.
  3. Then add 1/2 tbsp of turmeric powder & salt to taste.
  4. And cook the Dal. When you feel the Dal is already 70% done add 2 tbsp of jaggery. If you need you can add more water too. But the Dal tastes really good in thick consistency.
  5. After adding jaggery, keep checking the Dal & keep stirring it. Otherwise the jaggery can give it a burn too.
  6. After 10mins of adding jaggery add 1/4 cup of freshly grated coconut.
  7. And again after 10 mins, you can see the Dal is done. No need to over cook the Dal.
  8. For (chonk / tadka) - hit a pan. Add 1tbsp of ghee then add a pinch of hing, sliced ginger, cumin seeds & dry green chillies. And add this tempering to the Dal.
  9. That's it. Your Mitha Dali is done. You can take it as your brat ka Khana. And serve it hot.
