Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel happier!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body.
