Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are great at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
