Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you know green tea can help you be happier also!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
