Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel better!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
