Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at battling depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew green tea could help you be healthier. And now you know green tea can help you be happier too!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
