Foods That Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
