Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these suggestions instead.
