Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are terrific at battling depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can really bring you down! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these suggestions instead.
