Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
