Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. Some foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and be happy!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

If you would like to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know it can help you be happier too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
