Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you wish to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel healthier. And now you know green tea can help you be happier too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
