Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
